April 2019: Kenneth Ramos appointed Associate Vice President of Research

I’m pleased to announce that Kenneth Ramos, MD, PhD, PharmB, will serve as associate vice president of research for the Health Science Center. In this capacity, Dr. Ramos will oversee the research efforts at all of our five colleges as we grow innovation and discovery across the institution through scholarship and sustained growth of our extramural research funding.

Dr. Ramos, as had been previously announced, is also leading the Institute of Biosciences and Technology (IBT) in Houston and serving as assistant vice chancellor for health services at The Texas A&M University System. He is coming to us from the University of Arizona Health Sciences, where he was associate vice president for precision health sciences and executive director for the Center for Applied Genetics and Genomic Medicine. He has training in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology and medicine.

Dr. Ramos was designated an associate of the National Academy of Sciences in 2008 and elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2015.

His selection follows a national search, co-chaired by Marcia Ory, PhD, MPH, and David Threadgill, PhD. Many thanks to Dr. Ory, Dr. Threadgill and the entire search committee for ensuring we have the chosen the very best candidate for the position.

Dr. Ramos’ experience and knowledge, as well as his leadership and vision, will be instrumental as we continue to seek excellence across all aspects of our institution. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Ramos to his new role.

Thank you,
Carrie L. Byington, MD
