Update on COVID Vaccines and Texas A&M Health

December 28, 2020

Texas A&M Health Community,

The Texas A&M Health Vaccine Distribution Task Force is working with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and clinical affiliates across our institution to provide COVID-19 vaccines to our faculty, staff and students involved in direct patient care.

DSHS is the state agency that approves vaccine applications and approves the number of vaccine doses providers receive. Texas A&M Health has submitted two applications to the DSHS to receive and administer vaccines: one from the College of Pharmacy and one from the College of Medicine.

Pending approval of these applications, further information will be forthcoming regarding vaccine distribution, locations and logistics for the faculty, staff and students included in the first priority for vaccine distribution. It is important to note that first priority inclusion is specific to faculty, staff and students involved in direct patient care (inpatient and outpatient).

There are more than 2,000 Texas A&M Health faculty, staff and students who have been designated as a top priority recipient of the vaccine involved in direct patient care.

Please note that the federal government and the DSHS are regularly updating their COVID-19 information including vaccine distribution priorities and number of vaccine doses available for distribution. Information to the Texas A&M Health community will be provided as information becomes available.

If you are offered a vaccine in your clinical rotation or your employment through one of Texas A&M’s clinical affiliates, please do not wait for the Texas A&M Health vaccine distribution unless that is how you prefer to receive the vaccine.

Finally, we want to thank the more than 1,900 Texas A&M Health faculty, staff and students who completed the survey regarding preferences and concerns about the COVID-19 vaccines. We will have high-level response data available soon that will assist us in making informed decisions.

Continue to monitor email updates as information evolves.

Stay safe out there,

Texas A&M Health Vaccine Distribution Task Force
