Interprofessional Education Awards

Overview

The Office of Interprofessional Practice, Education, & Research (IPER) supports two types of interprofessional education awards: 1) the Excellence in Interprofessional Education Awards and 2) Interprofessional Practice, Education, & Research Symposium (IPER Symposium) Poster Awards. The purpose of these awards is to encourage, recognize, and reward distinguished individual and team efforts within and in collaboration with Texas A&M Health. These awards and related guidelines were developed by the IPE Leadership Team, which includes representation from all Texas A&M Health colleges.

The Excellence in Interprofessional Education Awards and IPER Symposium Poster Awards will be presented annually at the fall IPER Symposium. Up to $5,500 in total will be awarded in faculty, staff, student, and community partner categories. Each awardee will receive a framed certificate and will be featured on the IPER website and social media. Awards will only be given when there is a qualified nominee and do not need to be given every year.

IPER Awards Terminology

  • Interprofessional Education (IPE) “occurs when students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes” (World Health Organization, 2010, p. 7)
  • Collaborative practice, also called interprofessional practice (IPP), occurs when “multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, carers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care” (World Health Organization, 2010, p. 7).
  • Research focuses on areas of scholarship related to pedagogy for interprofessional education and/or scholarship related to collaborative practice.
  • Teaching encompasses didactic, simulation, clinical, online, and service/experiential learning settings.
