Biography
Nancy Fahrenwald, PhD, RN, PHNA-BC, FAAN, serves as associate vice president for University Health Services. In this role, she collaborates with the Texas A&M Health executive team and partners across the university to provide visionary leadership and administrative oversight of Texas A&M University’s student health, counseling and mental health care, and emergency medicine services.
Fahrenwald is an accomplished executive leader and scholar with a reputation of excellence in higher education, academic nursing, health innovation, health disparities research and clinical practice. Her board certification as an advanced public health nurse makes her uniquely position to lead prevention and population health initiatives in college health. As an Professor in the College of Nursing and former Dean she is a highly regarded as a service-oriented, mission-focused and collaborative leader with experience on state, regional and national boards.
Well-known for her impact on rural and underserved communities experiencing significant health disparities, Fahrenwald is recognized for research expertise in chronic disease prevention and control. Her major contributions are in the design, testing and dissemination of health behavioral interventions related with young adult, rural, and American Indian populations. Fahrenwald’s efforts have led to the wide adoption of these educational interventions in clinical settings. Also an experienced health policy researcher, she has worked to promote tobacco-free school policies and strengthen tobacco cessation programs.
