Interprofessional Education Awards
Interprofessional Education Awards
Overview
The Office of Interprofessional Practice, Education, & Research (IPER) offers two types of awards:
- Excellence in Interprofessional Education awards, and
- IPER Symposium Lightning Talk awards.
The purpose of these awards is to encourage, recognize, and reward distinguished individual and team efforts within and in collaboration with Texas A&M Health. These awards and related guidelines were developed by the IPE Leadership Team, which includes representation from all Texas A&M Health colleges/schools.
Both types of awards are presented annually at the fall IPER Symposium. Up to $5,500 in total is awarded in faculty, staff, student, and community partner categories. Each awardee receives a certificate and is featured on the IPER website and social media. Awards are only given when there is a qualified nominee and does not need to be given every year.
IPER Awards Terminology
- Interprofessional Education (IPE) “occurs when students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes” (World Health Organization, 2010, p. 7)
- Collaborative practice, also called interprofessional practice (IPP), occurs when “multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, carers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care” (World Health Organization, 2010, p. 7).
- Research focuses on two areas of scholarship:
- the pedagogy for interprofessional education and/or collaborative practice
- the topic for the IPER symposium in any given year (e.g., One Health, Trauma Informed Care, or AI).
- Basic science submissions are not appropriate for this venue.
- Teaching encompasses didactic, simulation, clinical, online, and service/experiential learning settings.
